Crypto Giveaway and Doubling Scams
“Send us crypto and we'll send back double.” It sounds absurd written down, yet doubling scams steal enormous amounts every year by dressing it up convincingly.
How the scam works
Scammers impersonate a famous person, company or project — often via a hacked or look-alike account — and announce a “giveaway.” To “participate,” you send crypto to an address with the promise of getting more back. You never do.
Where you'll see them
- Hijacked or fake celebrity/brand accounts on social media.
- Fake live-stream videos with a giveaway overlay.
- Comments and replies under real posts.
- DMs and Telegram/Discord announcements.
The simple rule
No legitimate giveaway ever asks you to send crypto first. Sending money to “receive more” is always a scam — there are no exceptions.
