Fake MetaMask and Wallet Apps: How to Avoid Them
A fake wallet app is one of the most direct ways to lose everything: you install it, enter your seed phrase, and the scammer instantly has full control. These fakes appear in app stores, search ads and browser extension stores.
Where fake wallets hide
- App stores — convincing clones with real-looking reviews.
- Browser extension stores — fake MetaMask and other wallet extensions.
- Sponsored search results — ads above the real download.
- Direct links from DMs or “support.”
How to install the real wallet
- Go to the wallet's official website, typed or bookmarked — not via an ad or link.
- Use the official download link from that site.
- Check the developer name and reviews carefully in app stores.
- Never restore a wallet on a site or app you reached from a message.
The golden rule
Your seed phrase only ever goes into the official wallet, during setup or recovery. If anything else asks for it — a website, a “support agent,” a form — it's a scam, every time.
Stay private
ChainInspector Suite never asks for your wallet or seed phrase — it only reads public on-chain data. That's how a research tool should work.
