Seed Phrase Storage: How to Do It Right
Whoever has your seed phrase has your crypto. Storing it well is the single most important thing you can do — and most people get it wrong in ways that are easy to fix.
Never do this
- Don't take a photo or screenshot of it.
- Don't store it in cloud notes, email, or a password manager synced online.
- Don't type it into any website or app except your wallet during recovery.
- Don't tell anyone — not “support,” not a friend, not a giveaway.
Do this instead
- Write it on paper, by hand, and store it somewhere safe and private.
- For larger amounts, use a metal backup that survives fire and water.
- Consider splitting it across two secure locations.
- Keep it offline, always.
Test your backup
Before funding a wallet heavily, confirm you can actually recover it from your written seed phrase. A backup you've never tested may not work when you need it.
